Woman Sitting on Tracks Struck and Killed by Amtrak Train in North County
ENCINITAS, CA (May 10, 2018) – A fatal train collision on North Vulcan Avenue was reported, early Thursday morning. An unidentified woman sitting on the tracks was struck and killed by an Amtrak train, authorities stated.
The collision occurred at 12:27 AM in the 900 block of North Vulcan Avenue. An Amtrak train was heading south barely above 80 miles per hour when the operator noticed a woman sitting on the tracks. Emergency brakes were immediately activated, but it was not able to stop in time and struck the victim.
Witnesses or anyone with relevant information are encouraged to call the sheriff’s department’s non-emergency line at (858) 565-5200. Authorities continue to investigate the fatal collision, and try to understand why the woman was on the tracks at that time.
