Woman Hospitalized after Car Slams into Newport Beach Strip Mall
NEWPORT BEACH, CA (July 23, 2018) – A woman was hospitalized Monday morning after a vehicle crashed into a beauty shop and a nail salon on Jamboree Road.
As per reports, the incident took place at about 9:45 AM in the 3600 block of Jamboree Road, near MacArthur Boulevard. A nail salon employee was taking a break outside the building when she was struck by a Tesla. Then, the vehicle crashed into the Bellavie Nail Lounge and the Planet Beauty store.
The employee was rushed to a local hospital after sustaining bruises and abrasions. Meanwhile, the driver of the Tesla was reportedly unharmed in the accident.
An initial investigation suggests that the driver was attempting to park her Tesla when she had allegedly mistaken the accelerator for the brake. It was also noted that the vehicle was not on auto-pilot at the time of the crash.
Investigators are working on determining the events that led to the collision, but it is believed to have stemmed from operator error. Alcohol and drugs were ruled out as possible contributing factors in the crash. No other details have been disclosed to the public at this time.
