14-Year-Old Point Boro Bicyclist Struck and Injured by Hit-and-Run Driver near Sunset Avenue
POINT PLEASANT, NJ (August 9, 2018) – A teenager was hospitalized Thursday evening following a hit-and-run crash on Route 88.
As per reports, the incident happened shortly after 10:30 PM near Sunset Avenue. A black sedan, driven by 26-year-old Point Pleasant resident Brittany Keifer, was heading east on Route 88 when it struck a bicyclist crossing the street.
The bicyclist was thrown onto the windshield and over the hood, where she was carried for a distance before she was ejected from the fleeing vehicle. Keifer allegedly drove home after the crash and covered her car with a tarp.
The teen cyclist, identified as 14-year-old Emma Mae of Point Boro, received aid from her friends until emergency crews arrived. She was rushed to the Jersey Shore Medical Center after sustaining several lacerations and head trauma. Her parents said that Emma is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and has been in and out of consciousness.

Keifer later turned herself in at police headquarters and was accompanied by an attorney. She was arrested and charged with fourth-degree assault by auto, third-degree leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury, and other offenses.
