25-Year-Old Photographer Hit by Two Vehicles on 5 Freeway near Echo Park
LOS ANGELES, CA (March 18, 2018) – A motorcyclist survived a hit-and-run collision only to fall victim to a DUI crash, early Sunday morning.
The victim was determined to be the renowned music photographer Emery Becker, a 25-year-old resident of Burbank. The incident happened on the 5 Freeway, just north of State Route 2, at around 2:00 AM.
Police say that a hit-and-run driver struck the rear of Becker’s motorcycle, ejecting him from his bike. He still managed to stand up on the roadway when a second vehicle struck him. The second car was a 2016 Toyota pickup truck that was driven by Alexandra Silva. After an investigation by police, she was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.
Becker succumbed to the injuries he sustained and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The hit-and-run driver’s vehicle was described as a dark sedan by witnesses. The California Highway Patrol is encouraging witnesses with more information to contact Officer M. Jones at (213) 744-2331.
Sincerest condolences to Emery Becker’s family and friends. Wishing them strength and support in this difficult time
