Alicia Garcia Involved in Laredo Traffic Collision
Laredo, TX (June 13, 2023) – On Sunday, Elvira Castro, 78, sustained injuries following a Laredo flea market pedestrian accident.
The accident report stated that the driver, Alicia Garcia, 54, was backing up into a parking spot when she didn’t see the Castro and struck her.
“The truck struck her and ran her over. People tried to wave at her, were yelling at her to stop. I think someone told her to move and she moved and that’s where she, I guess, caused more damage to the victim,” said Investigator Joe Baeza. “She was stuck for quite a long time underneath the vehicle.
Luckily, a tow truck in the area came immediately and hooked up the pickup truck and lifted it off the victim.
Investigating officers said Castro is still fighting for her life.
In the meantime, the authorities are investigating the Laredo traffic collision. The driver remained at the accident scene and cooperated with investigators. She also provided LPD with a voluntary blood sample.
Injuries in Traffic Crash
Despite the additional safety features on newer vehicle models, crash rates in Texas continue to increase, rather than decrease.
As a matter of fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), two out of three motorists will be injured in a traffic accident during their life.
Sad but true, auto accidents just like the Laredo flea market pedestrian accident are a major public health threat. They are a leading cause of death for individuals ages 5-64.
That is why knowing what to do if you get involved in a motor vehicle accident is valuable.
Meanwhile, here are some of the things that we can do to practice defensive driving and avoid accidents:
- First, always drive at a controllable speed.
- Then, it is also important not to assume you know the other driver’s intention.
- Also, be prepared to positively react to other drivers.
- This one, we should never neglect. Yield at intersections, even if you have the right of way.
- Most importantly, stay focused on the road. Removing all distractions such as mobile phone use, and unstrapped toddlers, can help us focus on the road.
