Multiple Injuries Sustained in 2-Vehicle Collision near Bethel Avenue
SANGER, CA (October 28, 2018) – On Sunday morning, off-duty officer Eloy Escareno and his family injured in a car accident on Highway 180.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place at approximately 9:45 AM, near Bethel Avenue.
Preliminary investigation showed that Eloy had the green light to turn left onto the highway from Bethel Avenue when another vehicle ran a red light and collided into his driver’s side.
Officer Escareno sustained major injuries, including several fractured ribs and damage to his spleen. His wife, Maribel Escareno, suffered a significant head injury causing swelling to her brain. Both of them were listed in stable condition, while their children sustained minor injuries, and went to the hospital for treatment. The driver of the vehicle that ran the red light had minor injuries.
It is unclear if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the incident. Additional information will be released to the public, once it is available.
