85-Year-Old Woman Fatally Injured in Accident on Vineyard Road
ELK GROVE, CA (April 2, 2018) – On Monday afternnon, an 85-year-old woman died when the vehicle she was riding was involved in a two-vehicle crash on Calvine Road.
Authorities were alerted about the collision around 1:48 PM at the intersection of Calvine and Vineyard Roads. According to reports, a 2008 Toyota, driven by a 57-year-old woman of Elk Grove, was traveling westbound approaching the intersection.
Around that time, an eastbound 2015 Honda driven by a 35-year-old Sacramento woman was stopped at a red light on Calvine, waiting to turn north onto Vineyard Road. The light turned green and the Honda drove into the intersection to turn left. However, the Toyota was unable to stop for the red light, colliding into the passenger side of the Honda.
The 85-year-old woman, a passenger in the right rear of the Toyota, suffered fatal injuries and died. A male passenger in the front seat of the Toyota was rushed to an area hospital with minor injuries, while the driver was transported to a hospital with an injured wrist.
The driver of the Honda suffered moderate injuries and was also brought to a local hospital for treatment. Three children, who were passengers in the Honda, were unharmed in the collision. They were age two, seven, and ten and were released to family members at the scene.
According to CHP, alcohol or drugs did not seem to be involved in the incident.
