Elizabeth Platt and Hanako Abe Die in San Francisco Hit-and-Run, Troy McAllister Detained
San Francisco, CA (January 01, 2021) – On New Year’s Eve, Elizabeth Platt and Hanako Abe died in a hit-and-run crash on Second Street.
Police later arrested the suspect and identified him as 45-year-old Troy McAllister.
The fatal accident happened at about 4 p.m., when the two pedestrians were fatally struck by Mission Street.
Subsequently, the vehicle driver responsible immediately fled the scene.
First responders and emergency crews provided aid to the victims. Even so, one of them succumbed to the injuries at the scene.
Apparently, the suspect vehicle was traveling northbound on Second Street approaching Mission Street when the suspect ran a red light and T-boned another vehicle.
The crash made the suspect vehicle lose control and spin through the intersection.
As a result, the vehicle crashed into two women in a crosswalk.

The source said the victims did not know each other.
They were later identified as 60-year-old Elizabeth Platt of San Francisco, and 27-year-old Hanako Abe, of Fukushima, Japan.

Meanwhile, it is unclear why the suspect decided to speed through a red light in the first place. Similarly, it was not determined if he was fleeing after stealing the car.
Moreover, the authorities said the driver of the vehicle immediately fled the scene on foot and left the suspect vehicle behind.
Later on, the officers located the suspect nearby. They detained him after a brief foot pursuit.
Police say Troy McAllister was already on parole for robbery.
Moreover, he is now being charged with two counts of voluntary manslaughter and two counts of hit and run, among other charges.
