2 Girls Dead in Porterville Auto Accident on Main Street and Orange Avenue
PORTERVILLE, CA (June 22, 2021) – Saturday afternoon, authorities arrested Elizabeth Nungaray after a fatal DUI crash on Main Street.
According to reports, 43-year-old Elizabeth Nungaray of San Jose drove under the influence. Then, she failed to yield at a red light at Main Street and Orange Avenue. As a result, Nungaray broadsided a van in the intersection.
Her vehicle then crashed into another vehicle until she hit a traffic light pole.
The crash led an 11-year-old girl to succumb to her injuries at the scene. Meanwhile, her 8-year-old sister later died at the hospital.
Also, responders airlifted a 4-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl to Valley Children’s Hospital. Both of them suffered major injuries and are listed in critical condition.
At this time, the Porterville Police Department hasn’t clarified what the relationship of the two children in the hospital is.
Also, the investigation identified that Nungaray caused the crash by driving while under the influence of alcohol.
Thus, authorities arrested her for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and causing an injury traffic collision while impaired.
The authorities booked her at the Tulare County Jail and are being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Moreover, the authorities urged anyone with information about the crash to call Sergeant Erik Martinez at (559) 782-7400.
The mother of the two sisters who died in the crash set up a GoFundMe account.
