Elizabeth Duarte Nunez Injured, Melanie Adams Arrested in DUI Crash on Highway 97
Okanogan, WA (August 14, 2020) – On Sunday, 19-year-old Elizabeth Duarte Nunez and three other people were hospitalized after a DUI crash on highway 97.
The incident happened just before 2 a.m. on August 9, south of Okanogan.
WSP said the 47-year-old Melanie Adams from Malott was driving north at milepost 282 when her vehicle crossed the centerline. Suddenly, it collided with a southbound car driven by the 19-year-old Elizabeth Duarte Nunez of Bridgeport.
The rescuers took Duarte Nunez and two unidentified passengers to Mid-Valley Hospital. While they airlifted the unidentified juvenile passenger to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. The patrol said the juvenile possibly suffers a serious head injury.
The hospital said the juvenile was doing well and scheduled to be discharged as of 10:22 Monday morning.
Meanwhile, authorities arrested Adams on suspicion of DUI. He was booked into the Okanogan County Jail.
On the other hand, the authorities cited Duarte Nunez for driving with a suspended license.
Authorities blocked all lanes of the highway for about an hour.
