Driver Arrested in Fatal Vehicle Crash on Highway 28
Maries County, MO (September 17, 2024) – Elijah Woodward, 21, of Locust Grove, Arkansas, has died in a Highway 28 DUI crash Sunday evening.
It was about 6:47 p.m. when the two-vehicle crash happened east of Highway C.
Investigators said Michael Edington, 41, of Rolla crossed the center line and struck Elijah Woodward head-on.
Edington’s 2005 Subaru Outback then drove off the right side of the road while Woodward’s Dodge Ram 2500 went off the left side of the road and overturned, Edington was thrown from his vehicle.
Immediately, the rescuers airlifted Woodward to University Hospital in Columbia, where he was declared deceased.
Edington was not injured and was arrested with charges on driving while intoxicated causing the death of another, misdemeanor failing to drive on the right half of the roadway and was issued an infraction for failing to wear a seatbelt.
His initial court appearance is set on 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Troopers said Woodward was also not wearing a seatbelt during the vehicle crash.
