Police Investigate Fatal Crash on 28th Avenue in Phoenix

Phoenix, AZ (November 1, 2023) – On Wednesday morning, 93-year-old Eli Johnson died in a crash on 28th Avenue and Thunderbird Road.

Around 5:30 a.m., officers responded to the area of 28th Avenue and Thunderbird Road and discovered a serious collision involving two cars and Eli Johnson. 

He was immediately transported to the hospital in critical condition and unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at the hospital later.

Investigative findings reveal that Johnson, while in a marked crosswalk, was struck by an eastbound SUV against a do-not-walk signal. 

The driver remained at the scene and displayed no signs of impairment, as confirmed by the police. 

Further investigation is ongoing.
