1 Dead and 3 Injured in Broadside Collision near Acena Drive
RANCHO BERNARDO, CA (November 3, 2018) – A woman was killed Saturday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash on Rancho Bernardo Road. The identity of the 71-year-old victim was not immediately released to the public. is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.
According to officers with the San Diego Police Department, the incident took place shortly after 2:00 PM near Acena Drive. As per reports, a westbound 2006 Toyota Avalon vehicle made a left turn on a red light and was broadsided by a 2005 Jeep that was traveling eastbound.
The elderly passenger inside the Toyota suffered serious injuries and was rushed to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation. She succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff.
The 72-year-old Toyota driver was hospitalized with minor injuries, and the 17-year-old Jeep driver and his 17-year-old female passenger complained of pain. It is unknown whether or not they needed further medical attention, and there is no update on the other driver’s current medical condition.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fatal crash and to identify possible contributing factors. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call SDPD or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
