Redding Rear-End Crash on 5 Freeway
REDDING, CA (August 20, 2019) – An elderly woman sustained injuries after a rear-end crash on 5 Freeway northbound on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened near the Oasis Road exit at approximately 12:30 PM. Based on a report, the victim’s car was traveling northbound when it stopped for a CalTrans construction. The lanes were reduced into one and a semi-truck was unable to stop in time and rear-ended the car. The car left the roadway and collided with a sign on the side on the freeway.
The woman was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the semi-truck reported no injuries.
Traffic was redirected towards Shasta Lake for an hour from the collision and the road construction.
It is not yet clear in what circumstance the pile-up occurred. However, an investigation by the authorities is on-going.
