79-Year-Old Man Struck and Injured by Car near Interstate 5
SAN DIEGO, CA (September 25, 2018) – An elderly man was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon, following a pedestrian crash on Fourth Avenue. The identity of the 79-year-old victim was not immediately released.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the incident took place at about 3:40 PM in the 1700 block of Fourth Avenue, just north of Interstate 5. The pedestrian was crossing in an unmarked crosswalk when he was struck by a Ford sedan, driven by an unidentified 74-year-old man.
The victim suffered an open fracture to his right ankle and abrasions to his knees and elbow. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and medical evaluation, but there is no update on his current medical condition. Meanwhile, the Ford driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the collision and to identify possible contributing factors. No additional information has been disclosed to the public at this time.
