51-Year-Old Man Killed in Collision on Rainier Avenue in South Seattle
Seattle, WA (April 18, 2020) – An elderly man in a wheelchair was struck and killed in collision on Rainier Avenue in South Seattle on Thursday night.
Police confirmed that on April 16, the now-deceased victim was in his wheelchair crossing the north side of Rainier Avenue South.
Indeed, witnesses around the area said the elderly man crossed the Martin Luther King Jr. Way illegally.
Even though the pedestrian sign signaled in red “Don’t Walk,” the man began to make his way across the intersection.
According to the police report, a van heading north right at the same time then hit him.
Responders arrived and transported the 51-year-old man to Harborview Medical Center.
Nevertheless, he later died due to sustaining critical injuries in the crash.
The driver of the van remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Furthermore, the detectives confirmed that the van driver was not under the influence of any alcohol or controlled substance.
The victim’s identification still remains unknown.
