George Edward Milton Arrested for Vehicular Manslaughter While Intoxicated
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 20, 2018) – A three-year-old boy was killed on Sunday evening, after a suspected DUI driver struck him. Eidan Cortez was walking on a sidewalk with his mother when the fatal collision happened.
According to the witnesses, the child was hit just after 6 PM in the Vermont Knolls neighborhood, near South Figueroa and W 92nd streets. Cortez and his mother were on a sidewalk when a vehicle, driven by 32-year-old George Edward Milton of Gardena, jumped a curb and struck the toddler.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Milton was reportedly seen trying to escape from the scene and started to back away with his vehicle. Bystanders ran to the scene to stop the fleeing driver and managed to restrain him until the arrival of authorities.
The police noted that Milton seemed incoherent and disoriented, showing signs of intoxication. Toxicology results revealed that the driver had a significant amount of alcohol in his blood during the collision, and Milton was arrested for vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage causing injury, and driving with a .08 percent blood alcohol content causing injury. If proven guilty, he will be facing up to 25 years in state prison.
