Edwin Vincent Hoffman Arrested in Brutal DUI Crash on Interstate 5 [Oceanside, CA]

Oceanside, CA (August 11, 2023) On Wednesday evening, Edwin Vincent Hoffman was arrested in a DUI crash on Interstate 5 that killed a woman and injured 5 others.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the fatal collision happened at about 9 p.m. on Interstate 5 near State Route 78.

Reports say that a black Corvette, driven by a 39-year-old Hoffman, veered into the right shoulder and crashed into a parked red Dodge Caliber, then went back to the road and collided with a big rig.

Officials says that the Dodge rolled over multiple times and ended up several hundred feet away from its original position. The sedan rested next to the Corvette.

Authorities say that Edwin Vincent Hoffman attempted to flee the scene, by taking off on foot, jumping over a wall, and then running through bushes, officers caught the driver and detained him.

Meanwhile, a female passenger on the Dodge was pronounced dead before she can be taken to a hospital, while 4 other people on the Corvette and the Hoffman was transported to the hospital.

Moreover, CHP has arrested Hoffman on suspicion of DUI, felony hit and run, and gross vehicular manslaughter. Officers booked him into Vista jail and was being held instead of $500,000 bail.

Authorities are investigating the fatal 3-vehicle collision.
