Major Head-On Collision Reported near Jacksonville Road
JAMESTOWN, CA (August 28, 2018) – Edward Katen and three other people were airlifted to hospitals Wednesday evening, after a head-on crash on Highway 120.
The California Highway Patrol stated that the collision happened at approximately 6:00 PM at the James E. Roberts Memorial Bridge, near Jacksonville Road. Reports showed that 55-year-old Edward Katen of Copperopolis was traveling west in a Chevrolet van on the highway when 43-year-old James Sayer of New Zealand, who was driving a Dodge van, turned from the Don Pedro Reservoir Vista Point onto Katen’s direction.
Sayer was used to driving on the opposite side of the road and collided head-on with Katen’s vehicle.
According to responding medics, Katen was pinned inside of his vehicle and had to be extricated by fire personnel. He was flown to the Memorial Medical Center in Modesto to treat major injuries. Sayer was flown to the Doctors Medical Center, also to treat major injuries. A passenger in Sayer’s vehicle, 37-year-old Helen Celia, also of New Zealand, was flown to Memorial to treat moderate injuries. A third person inside, a three-year-old boy, was flown to the UC Davis Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
An investigation is ongoing at this time, and anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call the police. No other information has been disclosed to the public.
