Eduardo Ramirez Jimenez Dies, Alberto Chilel Santos Arrested After Hit-And-Run Crash on Cave Creek in Phoenix

Phoenix, AZ (July 28, 2024) – On Sunday morning in north Phoenix, a hit-and-run crash resulted in the death of a bicyclist, 81-year-old Eduardo Ramirez Jimenez. 

Phoenix police responded to a call about an injured person near Cave Creek and Bell roads. 

Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive man next to a damaged bicycle. The man, identified as 81-year-old Eduardo Ramirez Jimenez, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle involved in the incident had fled before the officers arrived. During the investigation, detectives noticed a nearby vehicle with damage indicative of a recent crash. 

Officers approached and detained the driver, 27-year-old Alberto Chilel Santos, who exhibited signs of impairment while in custody.

A preliminary investigation indicated that Santos was traveling eastbound on Grandview Road when he veered into oncoming traffic and onto a sidewalk, hitting Jimenez, who was standing next to his bicycle. 

Santos admitted to leaving the scene after the crash but claimed he was unaware he had hit anyone.

Santos was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on charges of manslaughter and leaving the scene of a crash. 

The investigation is ongoing.
