1 Person Arrested After DUI Crash on 50th Street in El Cajon

El Cajon, CA (May 3, 2024) – On Thursday, a 44-year-old pedestrian died in a crash on 50th Street and El Cajon Boulevard.

San Diego Police Department officers responded to the scene at 50th Street and El Cajon Boulevard at 9:10 p.m. Thursday.

They determined that the pedestrian had been running south in the 4900 block of El Cajon before the collision occurred. 

According to San Diego Police Sgt. Clinton Leisz, a 20-year-old man was driving east in the number one lane of El Cajon when the pedestrian halted in the No. 2 lane, turned around, and ran north into the vehicle’s path, resulting in the collision.

The collision inflicted major head trauma on the pedestrian, leading to his death. 

Emergency responders transported the victim to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:37 p.m. Thursday, as reported by Sgt. Leisz.
