Suspected DUI Collision Near Millerton Lake Leaves John Tarter Dead [Friant, CA]

Friant, CA (January 15, 2024) – On Saturday afternoon, John Tarter, 78, died and 2 others were hurt in a suspected DUI collision near Millerton Lake.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the fatal head-on collision happened on Millerton Road near Marina Drive at about 2:30 p.m.

Reports say that a westbound blue Chevy Silverado, driven by a 35-year-old man, identified as Ryan Matthew Wayne Trevino  crossed over the double solid yellow line and crashed head-on into an eastbound white Toyota Tundra, driven by a 78-year-old man.

Officials say that the impact of the collision injured both the Toyota driver and his passenger. Medics say that the passenger sustained major injuries while the driver ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead.

Authorities say that the Chevy driver also suffered major injuries and officials are investigating the Chevy driver for DUI. Witnesses say that the Chevy was seen driving recklessly before the crash.

CHP is investigating the deadly head-on collision and has not released additional details at this time.
