Fatal Big Rig Crash on 580 Freeway in Dublin
DUBLIN, CA (December 11, 2018) – A man was killed following a big rig crash Tuesday afternoon in Dublin, CHP officials said.
The fatal crash happened around 12:36 p.m. on westbound 580 Freeway near Fallon and El Charro roads.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of a 2000 Peterbilt was traveling westbound on the freeway when the front of his truck clipped the back of a 2016 Freightliner that he was trying to pass, causing his truck to lose control and overturn on the right shoulder of the road.
Emergency crews pronounced him dead at the scene. He was only identified as a 35-year-old Sacramento resident. His name has not yet been released pending notification of his family members.
The driver of the Freightliner, a 26-year-old man from Miami, Florida, continued westbound and exited the freeway at Tassajara Road. He was later contacted by the CHP and cooperated with investigators. He was not injured. His passenger, a 24-year-old woman, was also unharmed.
The crash temporarily closed the Fallon Road on-ramp to westbound 580 Freeway and closed the right two lanes of the road while officials pulled the big-rig upright.
