Duane Claunch and Mary Claunch Hospitalized after Head-On Crash on Highway 101

 
Humboldt County, CA (October 16, 2020) – On Tuesday, a head-on crash on Highway 101 left three people injured, including Duane Claunch and Mary Claunch.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the car accident took place on October 13 on Highway 101 just north of Bald Hills Road.
 
The impact of the crash left one person trapped in one of the vehicles involved. Authorities responded and extricated the patient from the wreck.
 
Furthermore, authorities requested a Reach helicopter to respond to the crash. The air ambulance transported a total of three people to the hospital for treatments.
 
Moreover, according to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page, officials also requested Humboldt County’s Animal Control for an injured dog.
 
Due to the extent of the crash, Highway 101 was closed in both directions until 2:30 p.m. However, it is still unknown what events caused the collision.
 

Later Report on Crash near Orick

 
Further information reported later in the week revealed that 35 year old Jamie Vaughn of Eureka drove a A 2001 Jeep Cherokee northbound.
 
For reasons unknown, Ms. Vaughn then drifted into the southbound lane, crashing into a a 2013 Hyundai Genesis, driven by Duane Claunch, 60, of San Jose.
 
Paramedics airlifted all three involved, including Mr. Claunch’s passenger, 59-year-old Mary Claunch, to nearby hospitals.
 
The dog was said to be in Mr. Claunch’s vehicle at the time of the accident.
