Head-On Collision in Holden Injures Two After Brake Failure
Holden, MO (November 26, 2024) On Saturday afternoon, 2 people were hurt in a horrific traffic crash on Highway 58.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), the vehicle accident happened at about 4 p.m. on Highway 58.
Reports say that the head-on collision left two people injured, after the brakes failed on one of the vehicles.
Shortly after 4 p.m., a 17-year-old driving a 2005 GMC eastbound on Highway 58 attempted to slow down for traffic. When his brakes failed, he swerved into the westbound lane to avoid hitting the cars in front of him but collided head-on with a stopped vehicle.
Emergency responders from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and EMS transported the teen to Children’s Mercy Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries. The 49-year-old driver of the struck vehicle was taken to Western Missouri Hospital, also with moderate injuries.
The crash totaled both vehicles. Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Make sure your car is in pristine condition regularly. Ensure that your car is roadworthy by checking the tires, oil, brake fluid, mirrors, brakes, and air filters regularly.
Never text and drive. This is an obvious mistake and could lead to fatal consequences.
Injury accidents can happen in an instant. Always wear your seatbelt and ensure your vehicle is well-maintained, especially your brakes. If you or someone you know has been injured in a crash, seek medical care and legal assistance to protect your rights.
