Costa Mesa Man Dies after Vehicle Crashes into Guardrail near MacArthur Boulevard
IRVINE, CA (October 5, 2018) – A Costa Mesa man was killed early Friday morning following a solo-vehicle crash on 55 Freeway. The identity of the 31-year-old victim is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 1:20 AM near MacArthur Boulevard. The driver had been traveling in the carpool lane at high speeds when he failed to negotiate the change in the roadway condition. The front of the vehicle slammed into the metal guardrail that was separating the two lanes of travel.
As a result of the impact, the vehicle rolled over multiple times, before it came to rest on its tires. The driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding officers. No other cars were involved in the fatal crash.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the collision and to identify possible contributing factors. No further details have been provided to the public at this time.
