Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 5 near Highway 58
BUTTONWILLOW, CA (August 8, 2019) – A driver died in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 5, early Thursday morning. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened just south of Highway 58, at about 4:00 AM. Due to unknown reasons, a vehicle left the roadway and rolled into the orchards.
Emergency responders attempted to rescue the driver, who was pinned inside the vehicle. Unfortunately, the driver succumbed to injuries and died at the scene. Meanwhile, it is unknown whether or not the driver had passengers aboard.
The CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal crash. Investigators encourage witnesses to cooperate as soon as possible. Authorities will release additional information to the public once it becomes available.
