Fatal Thanksgiving Crash on Ortega Highway in Lake Elsinore
LAKE ELSINORE, CA (November 28, 2019) – A driver was killed in a car accident Thursday evening on Thanksgiving on the mountain road in Lake Elsinore.
The deadly crash happened around 9:05 p.m. in the 32000 block of Ortega Highway, also known as Highway 74.
A witness told the CHP that a white sedan hit a boulder just east of the waterfalls. As a result, the driver suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
The victim, who was the sole occupant of the car, was not immediately identified pending notification of next of kin.
The CHP estimated that the boulder weighed 500 pounds.
Officials closed the highway in both directions until after 10:00 p.m. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
