Man Dead in San Diego Two-Vehicle Collision on 5 Freeway
SAN DIEGO, CA (February 27, 2019) – A 21-year-old man was killed in a car crash on 5 Freeway in the East Village Monday afternoon. The fatal accident occurred on southbound 5 Freeway near Imperial Avenue past 1 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP said that the unnamed male driver from Calexico was travelling southbound at 80 mph to 90 mph when he swerved and hit a disabled truck that stopped near the center divider to repair a flat tire. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. There are no other injuries reported.
The two-vehicle collision caused all southbound lanes on the freeway to be blocked for a time. The CHP issued a congestion alert for the area, and all lanes were reopened at about 5:15 p.m.
