One Dead after Ontario Big Rig Accident on 10 Freeway

 
ONTARIO, CA (August 1, 2019) – A driver died in a big rig crash that sent power lines onto the 10 Freeway on Wednesday, July 31.
 
The freeway was temporarily shut down in both directions after the big rig crashed on the westbound side near Haven Avenue. The CHP initially stated that the crash occurred on the eastbound side of the freeway but later updated the incident log.
 
 
The big rig collided into a power pole. Then it went over a guard rail and crashed into a drainage ditch, California Highway Patrol Officer Christian Craycraft.
 
The impact of the collision separated the engine from the truck. The unidentified driver died, Craycraft said.
 
Power lines from the downed pole fell onto the freeway. This prompted officials to issue a SigAlert and stop traffic in both directions at around 3:50 a.m.
 
Eastbound lanes reopened to traffic at around 5:20 a.m.
 
There was no additional information on what may have caused the big rig to crash.
