1 Dead and 4 Injured in San Diego Car Accident
SAN DIEGO, CA (December 30, 2018) – Four firefighters sustained injuries and were hospitalized following a wrong-way collision on southbound 5 Freeway on November 30.
According to CHP, Engine 11 of San Diego Fire-Rescue Department was responding to a nearby hit-and-run collision just before 3:00 a.m. when a Toyota Corolla, traveling north in the southbound lanes, struck the fire truck.
As a result, the wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
SDFRD spokeswoman Monica Munoz revealed that four firefighters sustained injuries and were all released from UC San Diego Mecial Center about 4:00 a.m. after being evaluated.
Due to the incident, all southbound lanes of 5 Freeway were closed at Pershing Drive in downtown while CHP officers conduct the clearing up operation.
The collision is being investigated by the CHP.
