Ford Driver Killed in Bakersfield Traffic Collision
Bakersfield, CA (November 14, 2023) – A Chevrolet driver was injured following a Wheeler Ridge Road fatal crash Monday afternoon.
The authorities received the semi-truck collision around 3:16 p.m. at the intersection with Herring Road.
Investigators said that a Ford truck and Chevrolet vehicle were northbound on Wheeler Ridge Road.
The Ford crossed the double yellow lines and drove into the southbound lane to pass the Chevrolet. However, the Ford driver failed to see a 2015 Freightliner pulling two empty flatbed trailers traveling in the southbound lane.
The Freightliner driver turned the semi-truck to the right and slowed down to prevent the possible collision with the Ford truck but the Ford still collided head-on with the big rig.
The Ford spun out of control and slammed into the left side of the Chevrolet which was pushed off the roadway and rested on the dirt shoulder.
Afterward, the Ford truck was consumed by fire on the roadway while the big rig stopped on the southbound lane of Wheeler Ridge Road.
Later on, the rescuers declared the Ford driver deceased at the crash scene.
The 62-year-old man driving the Chevrolet sustained minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital.
The 51-year-old Freightliner driver was not injured in the accident.
The accident report noted that the Chevrolet and Freightliner drivers were wearing seatbelts.
In the meantime, there is no word if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision for the Ford driver.
Officers said drugs and alcohol were not factors for the drivers of the Chevrolet or Freightliner drivers.
