The collision happened at around 9:15 p.m. near Shafter Avenue according to the California Highway Patrol.
An eastbound Mitsubishi Eclipse drifted into the westbound lanes and collided with a westbound big rig with an empty trailer.
Emergency crews airlifted the driver of the Mitsubishi to Kern Medical with major injuries. On the other hand, the driver of the big rig did not have any injuries.
Meantime, Kimberlina Road remained closed west of Shafter Avenue during the investigation and emergency response.
As to why the Mitsubishi went into the westbound lanes is under investigation.
Driver fatigue significantly increases the risk of a road accident. Safely pull over and rest before continuing to drive if you feel yourself drifting into other lanes due to fatigue or any other reason. It is important not to place yourself in a situation that involves driving when you feel tired and sleepy. It impairs your ability to respond quickly and safely if a dangerous situation arises while you are on the road.
