ACCIDENTS WHILE ON THE ROAD

The Washington Traffic Safety Commission has a plan titled “Target Zero”, with the goal of decreasing deaths and serious injuries on Washington’s roadways to zero by 2030. Despite this, accidents statewide continue to take the lives of hundreds each year.

2021 was the deadliest year on the road that the state of Washington had seen for fifteen years. As a matter of fact, Seattle had 30 traffic deaths that year, a 16-year-high, and 11 fatal injuries in the first five months of 2022, according to a Seattle Department of Transportation report.

Traffic mishaps like the crash on Highway 395 are a major public health threat and a leading cause of death for people ages 5-64. Therefore, we must know what to do if in case we encounter traffic accidents.
