Driver Grant McKenzie Injured in Deadly Crash on Highway 46 E [San Luis Obispo, CA]

San Luis Obispo, CA (July 24, 2024) – Grant McKenzie of San Diego was injured in a deadly vehicle crash on Highway 46 E early Tuesday morning.

Investigating officers said a 2020 Hyundai with two occupants was traveling west on Highway 46 approximately four miles east of the Cholame “Y”.

Troopers said the driver was traveling around 55 mph behind a tractor-trailer. The Hyundai driver decided to pass the tractor-trailer and entered the eastbound lane attempting to pass the big rig.

Sadly, the Hyundai crashed head-on with a 2005 Ford F350 driven by Grant McKenzie.

Emergency responders rushed McKenzie to Adventist Health Sierra Vista hospital in San Luis Obispo with major injuries.

However, the driver and passenger in the Hyundai were killed in the crash. Their identities were withheld pending notification to next of kin. 

Investigators do not suspect impairment played a role in this collision.
