Fatal San Diego Crash near Imperial Avenue and Woodman Street
SAN DIEGO, CA (August 27, 2019) – A 23-year-old man died in a solo vehicle crash near Imperial Avenue and Woodman Street early Monday morning.
The San Diego Police Department said the crash happened at about 2:30 a.m. The vehicle crashed into metal poles that support overhead trolley lines.
The force of the crash ejected the engine from the car. It then flew across a drainage canal and Akins Street and wedged itself into the side of an empty parked car.
The crews of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department had to cut the roof off of the car to free the trapped driver who died at the scene.
The parked car got surrounded in some debris. Additionally, its door on the driver’s side was completely removed.
The crash also damaged the trolley tracks and surrounding fencing. According to the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System, they will shut down the trolley service in the area for an unknown amount of time. In the meantime, a bus will take commuters from Massachusetts Avenue to 62nd Street.
The police issued a SigAlert on Imperial Avenue between North 66th Street and 68th Street for several hours.
The crash is under investigation. The authorities ask anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
