1 Dead, 1 Injured after Pickup Rear-Ends Semi Trailer on 15 Freeway near Stoddard Wells Road
APPLE VALLEY, CA (July 25, 2019) – One person died after a pickup truck rear-ended a semi on 15 Freeway, Thursday afternoon. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened near Stoddard Wells Road, at about 2:10 PM. A semitrailer, carrying 70,000 lbs. of vegetables, was parked on the right shoulder due to mechanical issues. A short time later, a gray pickup hauling a recreational trailer slammed into its rear.
Unfortunately, the impact of the crash killed the pickup driver at the scene. Meanwhile, an unidentified passenger suffered major injuries and was flown to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. The driver of the semi did not sustain injuries.
The CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal crash. Investigators will release additional information once it becomes available.
