1 Killed and 1 Injured in High-Speed Crash near O’Hara Avenue
OAKLEY, CA (June 22, 2019) – A man lost his life after his vehicle crashed into a utility pole on West Cypress Road, Saturday morning. Authorities withheld the identity of the 66-year-old victim, pending family notification.
According to the Oakley Police Department, the incident happened near O’Hara Avenue, at about 10:25 AM. A black van, traveling at 100 miles per hour, hit a pole, collided with a second vehicle, and rolled over multiple times.
Emergency responders attempted to extricate the trapped driver, who later died at the scene. Meanwhile, an air ambulance transported a person inside the second vehicle to the trauma center at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek with non-life-threatening injuries. He is expected to survive.
Investigators believe that a medical emergency or a mechanical failure caused the fatal crash. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
