Bicyclist Injured in DUI Auto Accident on Sussex Way in Fresno
FRESNO, CA (May 14, 2020) – Early Wednesday morning, authorities arrested a teen driver after a DUI collision on Effie Street.
Deputies first attempted to stop a Chevy Tahoe for a possible DUI just after 12:30 a.m. However, the driver kept traveling on the roadway. As the chase continued, the Tahoe turned on the corner at Effie Street and Sussex Way. There, the driver struck parked vehicle and a bicyclist.
Shortly after the suspect tried to turn into an apartment complex on Sussex Way. However, he crashed into an apartment building and left a hole in the wall.
Police revealed that the driver and the passenger inside the suspect vehicle are both juveniles. Officers later arrested the teen driver who is now facing DUI and hit-and-run charges.
Meanwhile, the bicyclist who suffered injuries in the crash was transported to Community Regional Medical Center for further treatment.
Fresno Fire also evaluated the building for structural damage, and administered temporary repairs. Furthermore, the incident did not cause any electrical or plumbing damage.
