SAN DIEGO, CA (January 23, 2019) – An allegedly intoxicated man was hospitalized after after getting involved in a police chase and then ended crashing down an embankment in San Diego.
According to San Diego County Sheriff’s Lt. Dave Perkins, on Saturday at around 10:15 p.m., the driver refused to stop when asked by the deputy sheriff to pull over due to speeding near the Deer Springs Road exit. This prompted the deputy to go after the speeding car which went through Escondido and into San Diego. The driver then failed to negotiate a curve at Bernardo Center Drive, causing the vehicle to roll over 30 feet down a ramp.
After getting released from the hospital, the driver got arrested on suspicion of evading a peace officer and driving under the influence.

Doing traffic stops is an important part of a law enforcement officer’s duty to serve and protect the community. Sometimes, it can be a stressful situation for both the driver and the officer, but through good communication and cooperation, a traffic stop can be a positive experience for everyone. It is important to remain calm when an officer is attempting to pull you over. Find the nearest and safest area to pull over and park your car. Stay in the vehicle until further instructions are received from the officer.
