7-Year-Old Drayden Drake Dies in Merced County Multi-Car Crash

 
Merced County, CA (August 24, 2020) – On Sunday, the 7-year-old Drayden Drake died in a multi-car crash on Turlock Road and Oakdale Road.
 
The fatal accident happened about 9:20 p.m. southeast of Denair.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, four others were in the vehicle with the boy. Additionally, two adults and two children suffered moderate to major injuries.
 
CHP Merced office spokesman Officer Eric Zuniga said Drake was a passenger in a 2011 Cadillac SUV driven by 28-year-old Tasjuan Drake of Oakdale.
 
Tasjuan Drake was traveling north on Oakdale Road approaching Turlock Road. Zuniga added that traffic on Oakdale has the right of way, while drivers on Turlock Road have stop signs at the intersection.
 
On the other hand, driving a 2015 Toyota Tacoma is 35-year-old Daniel Donham of Ripon. He was in the southbound lane of Oakdale, waiting for the Cadillac to pass before making an eastbound turn onto Turlock Road.
 
While in the third vehicle, a 2013 Ford Fusion, 58-year-old Catherine Brehm of Coulterville was eastbound on Turlock Road. After stopping at the crossing, she pulled out into the path of the Cadillac, causing the three-vehicle collision.
 

The Pain of Untimely Death

 
Paramedics performed CPR on Drayden Drake, who was in a rear middle seat and appears not to have been properly restrained, Zuniga added. The rescuers took the boy to Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock, where he later died of his injuries.
 
Furthermore, Tasjuan Drake and his right-front passenger, 25-year-old Heather Hill also from Oakdale, both suffered major injuries. Paramedics rushed them to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
 
Additionally, the medical team took the two other children in the SUV, a 4-year-old girl, and a 2-year-old boy, to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera for treatment of moderate injuries.
 
Meanwhile, Donham and Brehm did not get injured from the crash. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash, Zuniga said.
