One Dead and Two Injured in Three-Car Crash near Lofall Road in Kitsap County
POULSBO, WA (March 13, 2018) – Just before 7 AM on Tuesday, one person was killed and two were injured, in a three-car collision that took place on State Route 3 near Lofall Road.
A white utility van, driven by 65-year-old Douglas Ranney of Port Angeles, was traveling northbound on Highway 3 in Kitsap County. For unknown reasons, the van crossed the center line and crashed head-on with a semi-trailer.
The van was then pushed back into the northbound lanes from the impact, where a Hyundai Elantra struck it.
Ranney was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to Poulsbo Fire Department personnel, and was pronounced dead on the scene. 32-year-old Colby Johannek of Bonney Lake, who was driving the semi, suffered minor injuries. The 56-year-old Bremerton man driving the Hyundai was also injured in the crash. Both were treated on site and released.
State Route 3 at Lofall Road was closed for several hours during investigation and cleanup, and reopened around 11 AM. Traffic was diverted onto Big Valley Road. Officials continue to investigate the cause of the fatal accident.
Heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Douglas Ranney. May he rest in peace.
