Redding Man Identified as Victim Killed in Shasta County Crash on Interstate 5
SHASTA COUNTY, CA (November 6, 2019) – Authorities identified 78-year-old Douglas Nelson Denton of Redding as the man killed in a crash on Interstate 5, Wednesday morning.
According to Caltrans, the incident happened at about 9:38 AM. Due to unknown reasons, a white Buick SUV left the south side of the roadway and traveled down the west embankment. Then, the vehicle entered the southbound lane. There, it collided with a silver GMC pickup near the Hilltop Drive overpass.
Emergency responders pronounced the SUV driver, later identified as Denton, dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the GMC driver, identified as 74-year-old Robert Daniel Jr. of Shasta Lake City, did not sustain injuries.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fatal crash. Investigators will release additional information once it becomes available.
