21-Year-Old Man Fatally Injured in Collision near Interstate 580
OAKLAND, CA (May 21, 2018) – A collision between two dirt bikes killed a man Monday evening and left another rider injured. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office coroner’s division identified the victim Tuesday evening as 21-year-old Dontrell Brown, a resident of Richmond.
According to the authorities, the crash occurred around 9:12 PM in the 3200 block of Courtland Avenue near Interstate 580, just west of Mills College. A dirt bike headed north and another dirt bike traveling south were both speeding when they collided head-on. The impact ejected both riders from their bikes and neither of them was wearing a helmet.
Brown was declared dead at the scene of the collision, while the unidentified 21-year-old second rider was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. He is expected to make a full recovery.
Speed is considered as a factor in the collision, while drugs and alcohol were ruled out by the authorities. An investigation is still ongoing, and anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the Oakland Police by calling (510) 777-8570.
We extend our sincerest sympathies to the family and friends of Dontrell Brown. We wish them strength and comfort during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.
