1 Injured in Santa Barbara Car Crash on Highway 154
SANTA BARBARA, CA (October 30, 2019) – A 48-year-old man sustained injuries and got arrested after a hit-and-run car crash on Highway 154.
Authorities responded to rescue an Oxnard male resident who allegedly escaped the scene on Highway 154.
The crash involved 48-year-old Donaciano Alfredo Cortez on October 26 on Highway 154 near Painted Cave Road, CHP Officer Jonathan Gutierrez revealed.
Gutierrez added that Cortez reportedly escaped the scene on foot into the chaparral. However, he got stuck down a steep embankment, Gutierrez said.
Cortez’s family reported him missing. As a result, the CHP, the Santa Barbara County, and a Ventura County helicopter launched a search in the area.
Responders found Cortez the next day. After that, a helicopter lifted him out of the ravine and up to the roadway. In addition, the CHP later found out that Cortez faces a no-bail warrant out of Ventura County after multiple DUI arrests.
After medical responders examined Cortez, authorities took him into custody. In addition, Cortez is still in custody without bail at Santa Barbara County Jail.
