Two Boys Fatally Injured in Suspected Street Racing Crash near Brown Street

MEAD VALLEY, CA (May 15, 2018) – Two brothers were killed in a head-on collision that is suspected to be a result of illegal street racing, early Tuesday evening.

The Riverside County Coroner identified the victims as 6-year-old Dominic Gonzalez and 8-year-old Antonio Gonzalez, students of Manuel L Real Elementary School.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened around 5:30 PM. The brothers were passengers in a blue Nissan Versa, driven by their older brother, on their way to pick up their two sisters from an afterschool program.

They were traveling westbound along Oakwood Avenue when a blue Honda Accord struck them head-on. The Honda was determined to be speeding on the wrong side of the road, followed by a black 2005 Nissan Altima that was also driving at a high rate of speed. This driver fled from the scene after witnessing the collision.

The Gonzalez brothers sustained critical injuries and were rushed to a local hospital where they were later pronounced dead. Both drivers received minor injuries and were also transported to hospitals for treatment and evaluation.

Evidence suggests that the drivers of the Accord and the Altima were involved in an illegal street racing activity. The unidentified driver of Accord was arrested and is facing vehicular manslaughter charges, while the driver of the Altima is still wanted by the authorities.

The CHP is urging witnesses or anyone with relevant information to contact the authorities by calling (951) 637-8000.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help the grieving family with funeral expenses for the boys. Click on the link to donate.
