Injuries Reported in Payne Springs Pedestrian Accident on Leisure Lane Road

PAYNE SPRINGS, TX (December 5, 2023) – Sunday night, a disastrous pedestrian crash on Leisure Lane injured 2 people.

The incident involving a car and a pedestrian happened at about 7:18 p.m. in the area of Leisure Lane Road.

According to reports, a driver hit and seriously injured the pedestrian. Thus, responders airlifted the victim to a hospital in Tyler.

Payne Springs Fire Rescue Chief Adam Robinson revealed that the pedestrian was a man walking northbound on TX 198. The authorities received several reports from people saying they had very nearly struck the man, as he was wearing dark clothes and walking in the roadway in the night.

Thus, police and EMS responded but the man was hit by a car as EMS arrived on the scene.

Officers confirmed that the man was unconscious and suffered several severe injuries. Then, the Air 1 medical helicopter out of Athens was immediately launched into the area.

Also, the driver who hit him sustained a “cardiac incident” which was believed to have occurred after the crash.

Air 1 transported the pedestrian to UT Health in Tyler. Meanwhile, the driver was airlifted to CHRISTUS Mother Frances.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
