Injuries Reported in Bellingham Multi-Vehicle Accident on Interstate 5 and Sunset Drive

BELLINGHAM, WA (January 9, 2024) – Monday afternoon, a disastrous multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 and Sunset Drive injured 1 person.

The incident happened at around 4:15 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 between the Meridian Street and Sunset Drive. Reports revealed that the crash involved a semi-truck and trailer.

According to an unconfirmed initial radio transmission, a jackknifed semi-truck blocked all lanes with substantial damage while other vehicles were involved. Also, the trailer was said to be fully loaded.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding added that the incident was a multi-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck.

By 5:25 pm, traffic backups were extended over 3 miles in both directions.

Later, an ambulance, equipped with advanced life support (ALS), transported at least one patient from the scene.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
