Disastrous Head-On Crash on Highway 166 Kills 1 Injures Another [Santa Maria, CA]

Santa Maria, CA (July 30, 2023) On Saturday evening, a person was killed while another was hurt in a head-on crash on Highway 166.

CHP says that the fatal traffic collision happened around 6:45 p.m. at the 9100 block of Highway 166 in front of Chimineas Ranch.

Officials say that the tragic crash ignited a small brushfire. According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the collision involved a black Subaru and a motorcycle.

Rescuers say that a person was trapped inside the vehicle, while the motorcycle was on fire off the roadway. Firefighters say that the fire reached vegetation on a hillside, blackened 2 to 3 acres.

Authorities say that a person was airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, the person is in critical condition.

Officials closed Highway 166 during the time of the clearing period.
