Injuries Reported in Victoria Plane Accident on Mockingbird Lane and Zac Lentz Parkway
VICTORIA, CA (December 12, 2024) – Wednesday afternoon, a disastrous airplane crash on Mockingbird Lane led to injuries.
Reports said that the incident involving a twin-engine airplane that had crashed and hit three cars happened at about 3:00 p.m. on Mockingbird Lane and Zac Lentz Parkway.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the Piper PA-31 involved in the crash had only the pilot on board.
According to the Victoria Police Department, one person was airlifted to an out-of-town hospital, and three others were transported with non-life-threatening injuries. The pilot was evaluated after the crash.
Dashcam footage captured the moments leading up to the incident, showing the plane flying perilously low and struggling to maintain a straight path. An eyewitness who recorded the video reported rushing to assist the pilot in unbuckling after the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate the crash alongside the FAA. Deputy Chief Eline Moya of the Victoria Police Department stated that the plane’s fuselage likely split in half due to cross-traffic impact at the intersection. The left-wing severely damaged one vehicle, another vehicle was flipped on its side, and a third remained stuck at a red light.
The 1981 Piper PA-31 took off from Victoria Regional Airport at 9:52 a.m. and flew for approximately five hours before crashing. FAA records indicate the plane is owned by Mississippi-based MARC, Inc., a company specializing in airborne survey and surveillance projects. A company representative confirmed the aircraft was conducting a land survey in the Victoria area, aligning with its recorded flight path.
The intersection where the crash occurred remains closed and is expected to stay there for several days as investigators determine the cause.
